Soul Reaver Screenshot Comparison - Beta vs Retail

I decided to make this comparison so that everybody could see the various differencies between the versions of Soul Reaver. The arrangement of the screenshots is as following, from left to right - the early beta, later beta and the retail version. Sometimes, there are just two comparing screenshots - this indicates that such location/object does not exist in one of the versions - in this case, the early beta. Some changes are really obvious, some not, but by taking the screenshots from the same location it makes them easier to spot. Changes include different lighting, objects, location of enemies, distinct textures, etc. I hope you will enjoy it.

  1. Excellent work, Raina!

This must've taken a long time to do. I'm grateful of your work. I always preferred the early BETA, for it was more colorful. But, there were some shots were the retail was good too. =)

  2. Thanks Viperic:) yeah, it was hard to compile the screens in all of the three versions but I am glad it turned out well in the end.

  3. Wow. This is stunning indeed. Top praise for the time and effort you must have put into this. There are a lot of interesting shots here.

When you haven't played SR in a while, though, it gets a bit tough to figure out which screens are actually from which version.

Where did you get the beta, if I might ask? Is it publicly available?

  4. thank you Mortanius, the screenshots are in order from left to right - early beta, later beta and retail.

about the betas - nope, they were not published, yet they leaked (I don´t know how) and very few people have them.

  6. Wonderful job Raina, i have to agree with Viperic, some of the BETA's textures were just better than the retail version. Within my favourites is Kain's and Rahab's (in BETA you could actually see his mouth, and he looks more menacing, awesome..) Keep up the good work.
